Landscaping Mundaring

Landscaping in Mundaring means hills soils of gravel and clay, blocks that often slope, and a Shire that asks for approval before most verge work. We are a family-owned landscaping and garden maintenance company based in Maida Vale, and we have served Perth since 2009.

Shire of Mundaring verge rules

Mundaring is in the Shire of Mundaring, and its verge pages say verge improvements need approval first. They ask for a sketch plan and covering letter to the Shire’s Infrastructure Services team before work starts. Confirm the current steps with the Shire before you begin.

According to the Shire, verge landscaping can include ground covers and low shrubs, up to 750 mm high, and its Street Tree Guidelines are the place to check the current limits. Residents cannot plant street trees. If a landscaped verge includes one, the Shire plants it, using a species that matches its street tree plan.

Hills soils and slopes in Mundaring

The regional soil survey for the Western Darling Range describes a lateritic plateau with duplex sandy gravels, loamy gravels and shallow gravels. East of it, the valley slopes carry gravels and deep sandy duplex soils. In plain terms, you will often find gravel near the surface, with clay subsoil in places, and clay holds water after rain.

Slopes make this more important. Plan drainage before you plant, and expect retaining walls on sloping blocks. See our retaining walls Perth work.

Block types around Mundaring

The Coppin Road structure plan on the western side of the Mundaring townsite describes existing lots from about 0.43 to 5.65 hectares, zoned Residential R5. It provides for subdivision into lots of no less than 2,000 m2. The State’s rural residential definition is lots of 1 to 4 hectares with reticulated water. So expect larger blocks than on the coastal plain.
