Landscaping cost in Perth depends on the size of the yard, the materials you pick, how much soil work the ground needs and whether you also want paving, retaining walls or reticulation. This guide sets out typical Perth ranges for 2026 from published cost guides, with the source for each figure. These are ballpark numbers, not quotes. We have not put our own prices in this guide, because a price depends on each site and scope.
What drives landscaping cost in Perth
Four things move the price most:
- Yard size and scope. A light refresh and a full transformation are different jobs, and the gap grows with the size of the yard.
- Soil work. Perth’s sandy ground needs amendment. The Perth guide puts soil amelioration at $1 to $2 per square metre, and it adds $500 to $800 of soil prep before turf in some fast-draining suburbs.
- Hard surfaces and walls. Paving and retaining walls are priced by the square metre or the lineal metre, and height changes the cost of a wall quickly.
- Reticulation and labour. A standard residential reticulation install of 3 to 5 stations runs $1,500 to $3,000. Labour is charged by the hour.
Typical Perth prices by yard size
The Perth backyard guide sets out ranges by yard size, using three levels of work. The figures include GST.

| Yard size | Light refresh | Mid-tier reno | Full transformation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 100 m2 | $3,000 to $8,000 | $8,000 to $18,000 | $18,000 to $35,000 |
| 100 to 250 m2 | $5,000 to $12,000 | $12,000 to $28,000 | $28,000 to $55,000 |
| 250 m2 and over | $8,000 to $18,000 | $20,000 to $45,000 | $45,000 to $80,000 and over |
The Perth landscaping guide gives broader totals. A basic backyard makeover runs from $5,250 to $15,750 with a typical figure of $10,500. A full transformation runs from $25,000 to $80,000. A full landscape package for a new home runs from $15,750 to $63,000, with a typical figure of $42,000. Scope and materials decide where in the range a job lands.
Component prices per square metre
Breaking a job into its parts shows where the money goes. These are the Perth component ranges from the same guide, verified in October 2026.
- Natural turf, supply and lay: $16 to $42 per square metre, typical $29.
- Synthetic turf, supply and install: $52 to $125 per square metre, typical $79.
- Paving: $63 to $170 per square metre, typical $105.
- Soil amelioration: $1 to $2 per square metre.
- Extra soil prep before turf in sandy, fast-draining suburbs: $500 to $800.
- Reticulation, standard 3 to 5 station install: $1,500 to $3,000.

Ask for the turf, soil prep and reticulation to be priced separately so you can compare quotes like for like.
Labour rates
The Perth guide gives a landscaper’s hourly rate of $58 to $115, with a typical figure of $84. Crews of two to four are common on standard jobs. An hourly figure does not give a whole-job price on its own.
Retaining walls: cost per lineal metre
Retaining walls are priced per lineal metre in the Perth guide. The table sets out the figures by material, with height where the guide gives it.

- Timber sleeper, height not stated: $210 to $470, typical $335.
- Concrete sleeper, 1 metre high: $315 to $630, typical $470.
- Limestone block, 1 metre high: $295 to $630, typical $440.
- Drainage behind the wall: $32 to $84 per lineal metre, typical $52.
- Engineering, per job: $525 to $2,100.
The guide is not consistent about when an engineer is needed, so ask your council. Our retaining wall guide covers approval rules and materials in more detail.
How the national picture compares
A national guide from Local Agent Finder (July 2026) gives a wider overall range of $5,000 to $30,000 and more for residential landscaping. Its material prices are not directly comparable with the Perth figures above. For example, it prices paving materials at $40 to $90 per square metre, without installation, and instant turf at around $25 per square metre. Compare figures from the same source and the same unit before deciding.

How to read these figures
The same job can look cheaper or dearer depending on how the price is stated, so check four things before you compare:
- The unit. Paving and turf are per square metre, retaining walls are per lineal metre, labour is per hour and some items are per job. A per square metre figure cannot be compared with a per lineal metre figure.
- The tax. The Perth guide’s figures are GST included.
- The scope. A figure with soil prep and reticulation left out is not the same as one with them included.
- The suburb. Sandy suburbs such as Floreat, Wembley and Mount Hawthorn can need extra soil prep, which the Perth guide adds as $500 to $800 before turf.
How to get a useful quote
The Local Agent Finder guide advises getting at least three written quotes. Use the same brief for each quote, and check that each one covers:
- Soil preparation, including amendment for sandy ground.
- Turf or paving, with the square metres stated.
- Reticulation, priced separately if it is not already in the scope.
- Whether the quoted price includes GST, which the Perth guide’s figures do.
